70-minute chamber opera for SSSSMM and one nonsinging role, based on the lives of six women living and writing during the whaling boom of mid-1800s New England.  The libretto is sourced from love letters, journals, ship logs, and newspaper articles written by the women themselves, and supplemented with folk reels, parlor songs, hymn tunes, and lullabies from the period.  The women of Whaling Women document their most important and dramatic events, but also offer us intimate glimpses into their everyday lives.

Commissioned by Patrice Tiedemann and Matthew Larson for Seaglass Theater.  Premiered in New Bedford, MA in 2021.  Chamber scoring for piano, flute, violin, and cello is available upon request.
