Whaling Women (2021)

Commissioned and premiered by Seaglass Theater in New Bedford, MA, Whaling Women tells the true stories of six historical women living and working in New England in the mid-1800s at the height of the whaling industry. The libretto is taken from primary sources: journals, ship logs, newspaper articles, hymns, and popular songs from the period.  SSSSMM and narrator, 70 minutes.  Available as a piano-vocal score or orchestrated for violin, cello, flute and piano.

Boston Conservatory at Berklee won 3rd place in Category VI of the National Opera Association Production Competition with their February 2025 production of Whaling Women.
